His Child's Mother

A sadness overwhelms me when I think of my friend,
Now at the beginning of what should have been the end

Of a senseless marriage that drives him insane.
He lets her get to him; he has no one else to blame.

To let go of the past is what he needs to do,
But it's hard to get rid of an old comfortable shoe.

He'd rather have what he knows than what may lay ahead,
Even though it could cause his musical soul's death.

Of advice friends try to give him, he doesn't think twice.
He was looking for her heart when he rolled those damned dice.

He couldn't help gambling my love against heartache.
That was simply a chance he just thought he had to take.

That it will lead to his ruin one desperate way or another,
He really does not care; she's his child's mother.
